The Kids of Rutherford County, from Meribah Knight with Serial Productions, is about children in Tennessee jailed for charges that should not have put them in a cell.
A judge’s policy, a video, a lawyer who starts pulling files. The story is local and then it is about how a system treats Black children when nobody powerful is counting.
Knight had already reported Nashville schools. Here the narrative is a docket. The outrage is in the paperwork, which makes it harder to wave away as tone.
The video in the first chapter is the key, and later episodes show what the county did after people heard it.
