Modern Love is the Times essay column performed as audio: one relationship, told by the person who lived it, often with an actor reading and the writer nearby.
Daniel Jones built the column on a simple constraint, a true story that has to earn its ending. The podcast keeps that constraint and adds a voice, which changes where the jokes land.
The series is a weekly reminder that a love story can be about a neighbor, a parent, or a decision not to call. The sentence-level writing is the draw.
If a reading feels too smooth, stay for the conversation after, where the writer admits what the essay left out.
